ADN Network on Loss and Damage

On December 12, 2024, ADN successfully obtained membership with the Santiago Network. As a member, ADN is expected to play an essential role in fulfilling the objectives and functions of the Santiago Network, with opportunities to contribute to and benefit from its activities concerning loss and damage.
Update on activities:
The Network Members convene quarterly to deliberate on governance matters, formulate an action plan, and exchange updates regarding the Santiago Secretariat. The Network Secretariat is responsible for establishing and managing the Network’s rules and responsibilities, organising activities, and discussing collaborative ideas. To date, four meetings of Network Members and three meetings of the Steering Committee have been conducted.
10 July 2025: Knowledge-Exchange Event on Disaster Loss and Damage from the Perspective of Future Leaders. In collaboration with Professor Anil Kumar Gupta of IIT-Roorkee, ICARS, and the DST CoE, and Mr Vishal Pathak of the All-India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI), this webinar focused on the challenges and opportunities of traditional and evidence-based methodologies for mitigating loss and damage. The event featured Mr Asad Tahir Jappa, Mr Eduardo Cardoso, Mr Yunes Abou El Wafa, Miss Prarthona Datta and Master Arkoneil Ghosh.
7-20 November 2025: COP30 Blog Series, with short articles written by Network Members on the Conference topics of implementation, adaptation, agriculture and food systems, children and youth, global ethical stocktake, information integrity, and health and gender. The articles are being shared on the ADN Blog, LinkedIn, and PreventionWeb.
11 December 2025: Dr Animesh Kumar, Head of the UNDRR Office in Bonn, delivered a lecture, ‘Post COP30: Synergies Between Climate Action and DRR’ on 11 December at 2:00 PM (GMT). 22 participants attended the webinar. Prof. Nibedita Ray-Bennett facilitated this lecture in her role as the Associate Director and Research Challenge lead on ‘Climate Risk and DRR’ at the Institute of Environmental Futures (IEF), University of Leicester.
The ADN Network on Loss and Damage comprises 33 members, including 26 technical experts and seven future leaders.
